Shepard started his painting at the age of 20 and has been painting professionally for over 40 years. The clarity and preciseness of all his paintings are basically self taught, with the exception of  a course he took with the Washington School of Art which gave him a foundation for drawing skills.  Shepard exhibits in various galleries throughout the country. In his early years, he exhibited in many shows which he received numerous awards and recognition.
